Sir,
Jith reference to the letter from this department
of the 6th ultimo regarding the emoluments of Captain
C.T. Hoskins at Shiraz, I am directed by the Earl of
Balfour to state, for the information of the Secretary
of State xor India, that tne Lords Commissioners of His
Majesty's Treasury have now sanctioned the charge to
Imperial funds of half of the increase in Captain Hoskins '
salary proposed in your letter of the 31st January last,
P.5597.
2. I am, however, to add that Their Lordships in affording
Their sanction, have stipulated that Captain Hoskins must
be replaced as soon as possible by a probationer vice
consul from the
Levant
A geographical area corresponding to the region around the eastern Mediterranean Sea.
Consular Service, and His Majesty's
Minister at Tehran has been requested to endeavour to
send to Shiraz at an early date one of the probationer *
vice consuls at present stationed at Tehran.
