appears that the Company themselves
take it for granted that royalty

We have now to consider what
action to take in the light of the
considerations mentioned above, which
slightly alter the position discussed
in the Resident’s letter of 18th
December.
bvt- In taking our decision we must
bear in rninu that while the Company
may not have the legal right to
acquire or reserve areas at this stage
it is very important (so long as our
own interests are secured) to do
nothing which can be represented by
the Company as justifying a delay on
their part in reaching the stage of
active production and so postponing
the aate by which the Sheikh can
expect to receive royalty consequent
on commercial production having been
attained.
The position is complicated by
the fact that the areas which Holmes
wished to reserve on behalf of the
Company and for the reservation of
which application is still being made
by the Company, appear to include part
of at least one of the areas which we
are now arranging to acquire for
Government purposes (area's 1 mtirZ).
