vzhich we could offer the Persian Government in exchange for

ME. LAITHWAITE said that any grant of facilities
tor overhaul at Karachi or Bombay for Persian ships
intimately affected the Government of India 3 who were
already inclined to complain that the cash concessions to
be granted in return for a treaty* which was to a greater
extent an Imperial than an Indian interest*were being made
by them. They had been consulted as to the grant ox
docking facilities* but while no reply had yet been received*
he thought it likely that they would Lake exception bO
being asked to pay either for the docking facilities* or
for the repairs carried out. The existing dock at narachi
was privately owned* while that at Bombay was the property
of the Royal Indian Marine* who would probably be glad to
obtain this work on the usual terms.
CAPTAIN MOORE said that the normal practice at the
Admiralty was to afford free docking facilities to foreign war
ships. This* of course* did not include overhaul and
repairs* which were paid for by the country concerned. He
added that the sloops in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. were maintained
primarily for the Government of India* whose grant of
£100*000 per annum by no means covered the expense.
MR. RENDER pointed out that* while a lease wao und

This volume contains correspondence regarding wide-ranging negotiations that took place between the Persian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the British Legation in Tehran, the aim of which was the agreement of a bilateral treaty between the British and Persian [Iranian] governments in order to resolve a number of outstanding issues including the status of Henjam [Hengam] Island and Bahrain.

The majority of the correspondence in the volume is internal correspondence between British officials, but it also contains a limited amount of correspondence in French that was exchanged between British and Persian Government officials.

In addition to this correspondence, the volume contains the following documents:

Arrangement

The subject 200 (Anglo-Persian Treaty Negotiations) consists of eight volumes, IOR/L/PS/10/1250-1257. The volumes are divided into ten parts, with parts 1 and 2 comprising one volume, parts 3, 4 and 5 comprising one volume each, parts 6 and 7 comprising the fifth volume, and parts 8, 9 and 10 comprising one volume each.

The papers are arranged in approximate chronological order from the rear to the front of the volume.
