Dear Sirs,
I desire to acknowledge with thanks receipt of yeur
Seed Catalogue - Season 1932.
2. 1 now write to seek your advice and assistance as
regards (a) suitable seeds (both vegetable and flower) and
(b) correct tines for planting.
3. Ho gardens have been run for sons ten years in
Muscat and experience is therefore lacking. At the sane
tine the local inhabitant grows no English vegetables or
flowers and is devoid of all knowledge of other than indi
genous preduets • such as marrows, brinjals ete.
4. Experiment by the American mission, who are more
fortunate both as regards soil and water, show that cabbages,
cauliflower, beet, lettuce ete do tolerably well here. With
flowers they have so far made no endeavour.
5. Soil varies from elayish te slightly sandy loam
according to situation. Water available (from wells) is
fairly good but slightly bratkish, whilst tha two gardtn
sites are 100 yards (for flowers only) and £ mils reapoativa-
ly, inland from tha saa.
6. The alimato during tho hot woathor ( vide attached
detail ) is hot and very sticky, whilet from Hovombor to
Maroh it is tomporate to tool, with muoh loss aoisturo. On
the wholo tho olimatie oonditions aro somewhat akin to
Karachi.
