Translation of a letter dated SUBAIHIYAH, the 30th Muharram

After
X beg to report that after we had received news of BEAU 1 s
raid ( i* e* the abortive raid bo QARAIYAH vide my 304-C
of 14th September and 314-C of 21st September) we concentrated
and got ready for action ( fazaana). We then heard that the
force had returned to Jahra but that three smaller raiding
parties has been sent out from the main body. The first of these
under Ibn Tuwala raided our Arabs camped at EL HA3A wells* the
second under Ibn Majid raided the wells of EL RUMAH, while the
third party under ’’KARAN’* went for SHI3AAK* All these
1 Ghazzus 1 were successful and lifted camels. Our i.orces on
hearing the news pursued the raiders hot-foot in order to
recover the camels* We followed hard on their tracks which
led as far as JAHRA, but God did not see fit to let us recover
them* As they entered JAHRA, we reached Sub ai hi yah. We the
pursuers halted ( nanwakhna) at SUBAIHIYAH for one day, our
ho P e being that our oamels would be sent out to grase and we
would get them by a sudden attack. *e thought tais was the
only way of getting them seeing we had not sufficient torces
to engage Ibn Subah's pepple at JAHRA, who were both many
and were occupying txwwmt towers. Next day we mov-d
SUBAIHIYAH and halted ( nauwakhna) at RAHAIYAH, where we sent

Our party was driven back. We then moved from RAHAIYAH with
the intention of camping beyond JAHRA, until we should get a
chance at our camels. As we were on the march ( across the

Correspondence discusses the arbitration of the British Government in the matter of the border of Kuwaiti territory under the Shaikh of Kuwait [Shaikh Sālim bin Mubārak Āl Ṣabāḥ] with that of the Ruler of Nejd [Najd], Bin Saud [‘Abd al-‘Azīz bin ‘Abd al-Raḥmān bin Fayṣal Āl Sa‘ūd, popularly known as Ibn Sa‘ūd]. In this connection correspondence discusses the supersession of the Anglo-Turkish Convention 1913 by the British Government's 1915 agreement with Bin Saud in which he pledged to resolve disputes by peaceful means and submit to arbitration by the British Government. In addition the correspondence discusses potential hostilities between the Ruler of Ha'il led by the Rashidi dynasty of the Shammar tribe and the Ruler of Nejd, Bin Saud. Also discussed is the Battle of Jahra and the involvement of British military forces by air and sea.
