At my interview with Ibn Sand latter informed me he had definite

proof that Sheikh Sale was in communication to Ibn Bashid and the
Sharif and was endeavouring to organise combination against Ibn Saud.
Ee assured me however that his people would remain quiet unless attacked.
On arrival Mferiai Eoweit I learnt that Sheikh Sale had mobilized a

considerable force at Jahra at head of Eoweit Bay* Informed him that
in view of the undertaking given hy each party I saw no point in this

and suggested that he would he Better advised and demobilize. I also
famed him that if it came to hostilities between him and Ibn Saud he
fas bound to get the worst of it eventually. He replied fhat if iks he
demobilized he would certainly be attacked and as things were he was
confident in the event of hostilities he was strong enough to hold his
own. News reaches me in Kut that he has been attacked at Jahra
and has suffered defeat and populace of Eoweit fear attack on the town
but have asked Senior Naval Officer to send ship there to assist in
protection of the town and Europeans should occasion arise#
k regards conflict between ikhwaa and Sheikh Sale I would ask His
fej9sty*s Government to await further news and fuH report before
forming conclusions. Addressed to the Secretary of State for India
and repeated to Foreign Department Simla and Baghdad and Bushird

Correspondence discusses the arbitration of the British Government in the matter of the border of Kuwaiti territory under the Shaikh of Kuwait [Shaikh Sālim bin Mubārak Āl Ṣabāḥ] with that of the Ruler of Nejd [Najd], Bin Saud [‘Abd al-‘Azīz bin ‘Abd al-Raḥmān bin Fayṣal Āl Sa‘ūd, popularly known as Ibn Sa‘ūd]. In this connection correspondence discusses the supersession of the Anglo-Turkish Convention 1913 by the British Government's 1915 agreement with Bin Saud in which he pledged to resolve disputes by peaceful means and submit to arbitration by the British Government. In addition the correspondence discusses potential hostilities between the Ruler of Ha'il led by the Rashidi dynasty of the Shammar tribe and the Ruler of Nejd, Bin Saud. Also discussed is the Battle of Jahra and the involvement of British military forces by air and sea.
