Translation of a letter dated the 17th July 1920 from the

Sheikh of Kuwait to the Amir 'Abdullah al Kut'ab ar Rashid.
After complements.
I have received your letter at the hands of your men
♦Ah dull ah and his friends, and was much pleased to read what
you say about your love and friendship,for which I am very
grateful,and I thoroughly appreciate your true and sincere
friendship. You say that certain people have envied the friend
ship which exists between us,and have tried to stir up ill
will ctn d spoil our relations,and that the most violent of
these is Ibn Sa , udj that he made it one of the conditions of
the terms of peace which he offered you that you would break

off relations with the Sharif Husain and with me. You say
that when you understood his purpose and refused,he started,
attacking your subjects,and that you have,accordingly, sent
your men to let me know your true friendship. I most sincerely
thank you, and, by the grace of God, the bounds of our true
ftiendship will increase and continue,and,please God,the wish

of the envious will not be gratified. My brother, if such be
the conduct of Ibn Sa'udjthen may God defend the right. I am
well, thanks be to God,and I pray God. to give us both prosperity

Correspondence discusses the arbitration of the British Government in the matter of the border of Kuwaiti territory under the Shaikh of Kuwait [Shaikh Sālim bin Mubārak Āl Ṣabāḥ] with that of the Ruler of Nejd [Najd], Bin Saud [‘Abd al-‘Azīz bin ‘Abd al-Raḥmān bin Fayṣal Āl Sa‘ūd, popularly known as Ibn Sa‘ūd]. In this connection correspondence discusses the supersession of the Anglo-Turkish Convention 1913 by the British Government's 1915 agreement with Bin Saud in which he pledged to resolve disputes by peaceful means and submit to arbitration by the British Government. In addition the correspondence discusses potential hostilities between the Ruler of Ha'il led by the Rashidi dynasty of the Shammar tribe and the Ruler of Nejd, Bin Saud. Also discussed is the Battle of Jahra and the involvement of British military forces by air and sea.
