whole of the Cruise my Secretary and my Office had to he
separated from me and accommodated in another Sloop (and for
two days in a Destroyer), and even so there was no proper
office accommodation and no place where cyphering or typing
could he carried on in circumstances of either secrecy or
convenience. There was no accommodation whatever for the
clerical establishment, vho had to sleep and eat in a canvas
enclosure rigged up on deck. There is, moreover, no suitable
accommodation in the Sloops for the
