Bin Sand refers to his previous letters and adds that he possesses strn ”g
oroofs to show that aggressor throughout has been the Shenf and that the
entire responsibility rests on him for all that has taken place. He claims
that no treaty obligations have been violated by bm and proteste against the
withholding temporarily of the subsidy and adds that when the facts
become known to His Majesty’s Government he is fully assured they wi)
see no reason to withdraw their confidence from him and that even should
we finally withhold his subsidy it will in no way affect his friendship for
His Majesty’s Government, or his honour or financial position.

He concludes his letter by saying that he has just returned ^^h all his

Unless the intention is to stop the subsidy finally, I shall he glad if I
can he given early orders regarding its payment as it should not, I think, he
further delayed.
Prom a conversation I had with his agents at Basrah, I gather that it is'
regarding by them as most unlikely that a pilgrimage to Mecca will be under
taken by Bin Saud especially if he receives intimation that such a course
would he contrary to the wishes of His Majesty’s Government, hut doubt was
expressed as to whether Bin Saud would he able prevent the Akhwan from/
going there now that they had found out what an easy task it was.
The consistent manner in which Bin Saud has maintained his position^
both in the field and by letter and his steady courtesy tend to confirm me im
the views expressed by me on the subject in my previous telegrams.
