The conclusions of the inter-Departmental
conference to consider the line to he adopted in view
of the Persian attitude regarding the 3avery Convention
of 1882 and the right of search will he found on
P. 6293/29 helow. The conference recommended, briefly,
the abrogation of the 1882 Convention and the negotia
tions of a new Convention, to he appended to the
General Treaty as a protocol, in which no mention of the
right of search should he made, hut which should provide
for full co-operation between Persia and His Majesty’s
Government in slavery measures generally, and should
place on Persia the responsihixity for Persian vessels
on the high seas, and on His Majesty’s Government the
responsibility for British and Arab vessels; providing,
finally, that, in the case of a recrudescence of the
traffic, the High Contracting Parties should consult
together on the measures to he adopted.
The conclusions of the meeting have been

accepted by the Admiralty. The draft Treaty article
and the protocol subsequently prepared by the Foreign
Office to give effect to them were communicated for our
concurrence in their letter of the 24th October on P.
6847, flagged. The drafts, which represented a slight
variation in form from the lines suggested by the inter
Departmental conference, have also been accepted by the
Admiralty, subject to certain verbal modifications set
out in Admiralty letter of the 9th November on P.7195.
3. The views of the Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. and the
Government of India on the position are given in the
Viceroy's telegrams of the 12th November on P .7252 and

This volume contains correspondence between British officials concerning agreements between the British and Persian governments related to the suppression of the slave trade in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. . Much of the correspondence is between officials at the Foreign Office, the India Office The department of the British Government to which the Government of India reported between 1858 and 1947. The successor to the Court of Directors. and the British Legation in Tehran.

Specifically, the correspondence relates to discussions concerning the drafting of an article relating to slavery in a proposed Anglo-Persian Treaty and the revision of the Anglo-Persian Slavery Convention of 1882. Specific incidents regarding slavery in the region are also discussed intermittently throughout the volume.

In addition to this correspondence, the volume contains several extracts and drafts of agreements (most of which are in French) and the following documents:
