It was stipulated that the four parts of this
proffered arrangement were interdependent, and that
the offer should be accepted or rejected en bloc .
On the 20th February 1925 "the Foreign Office
replied accepting, provisionally, the allocation of
tnree-fourths ol the cost of the Lawrence as a fsir
charge on the lighting service and by implication
agreeing to the division of this portion between
Indian and Imperial Revenues.
The Foreign Office did "not feel able to invite"
xhe Treasury to reconsider their view (see para.23)
as to the division of the cost of equipping the
Lawrence as lighthouse tender.
As a result they rejected the offer of the
government of India to compromise their claim in
respect of the initial cost of the'Lawrence*.
