With reference to your letter No. P.1207 of March
26th, relative to the employment of R.I.M.S. "Lawrence”
for the additional duties of lighthouse tender in the
Persian Gull in the place of the "Nearchus", I am directed
by Mr. Secretary Ramsay MacDonald to state that the Lords
Commissioners of His Majesty’s Treasury are prepared to
agree that the Nearchus” shall be scrapped forthwith,
provided that, while the cost of the
Persian Gulf
The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran.
Lighting
Service is borne wholly by the government of India and the
Imperial Government, no greater sum shall be debited to
Imperial Revenues on account of the maintenance of the
lighthouse tender than has been debited in previous years
on that account.
2. With regard to the proposal that the non-recurring
cost (amounting to fifty thousand one hundred and sixty
