Translation of an extract of a letter dated 7th July 1917
from M. M. Bekhor, Amsterdam, to his brother, Ezra M. Bekhor,
Baghdad.
Scarlet L G-reen dves. It was an important and a very
good news for us to learn that you had received 600 boxes. We
have been hardly hoping that you had already received any,
because the goods were shipped very late early on February, we
have been overjoyed at your real information regarding the
rate being thirteen or fourteen rupees Indian silver coin also widely used in the Persian Gulf. per oi^box. It is very
good indeed and it suits us well. Of course you mean that each
box is one packet of 350 grams gross, and in accordance with
your information regarding the 600 boxes will fetch about £ 56J.
You ask me whether it is possible for us to ship this article
in the future and now we must tell you that it is entirely
imnAOBihifi to do such thing's, at the least we eould ship some
out of this you could hardly get any, as we are at a loss to
know whether there would be any possibilities to get the goods
easily. Regarding the balance of the shipment which you have
received of course we shall inquire and wee what happened to it.
We have been since looking well after all our shipments and are
daily awaiting their results. We gave another order with some
other manufactures for 200 kilos at eheaper rates, but in
November last year we cancelled it and the manufacturer too
agreed to do so. The reason of our cancelling the order was
the lifck of money enough to meet the order. We must say it was
our luck. Prom this same manufacturer we have shipped tour
big parcels containing artificial Indigo. These must have
been shipped too late and you did not receive them. We are
very sorry for them. Pez.. We understand that in accordance
with the information that you have received from Baghdad the
quantity of fez that reached there is 66 dozens only and four
big parcels. Temporarily we have not any recollection as to howj
much
