This refers back to my telegram No. 434 (Serial No. 203) of to-day’s
date.
With reference to para. 3 of Government of India telegram No. 23-C.
to Secretary of State, Consul Birjand considers that though Vice-Consul
should remain at Duzdap for purposes of railway matters and trade pass
ports, he should have no concern with political affairs relating to Sarhad
tribes. I concur and suggest that after British evacuate Sarhad he should
be provided with Consular escort.

Kindly issue instructions with regard to detachments at Duzdap and
Kwash, no orders for their withdrawal should now issue if that’s the
accepted policy.

Foreign letter No. 70/4/M. of December 24th (Serial No. 181) to
A. G. G., Baluchistan contains policy with regard to Duzdap and
Khwash. The Khwash detachments, if the Persians desire it, may
be withdrawn immediately they arrive, in consultation with the A. G. G.
It should not remain there in any case longer than a month after their
arrival unless they officially request that it be retained there. If the
Persians w'ish the detachments at Mirjawa and Duzdap may remain longer.
You are authorised, subject to the A. G. G.’s concurrence, to despatch a
column to Mirjawa to support the withdrawal should you consider it neces
sary. Please acknowledge. This refers to your No. 44814-G., dated
December twenty-seventh (Serial No. 206).
