Sir,
With reference to my letter (Enclo. to Serial No. 164) of the 26th ultimo,
regarding the disposal of the Mirjawa-Duzdap Railway and the restoration
of order in the Sarhad and Persian Baluchistan, I am directed by the Mar
quess Ourzon of Kedleston to transmit to you, to be laid before the Lords Lorn
missioners of His Majesty’s Treasury, the accompanying copy of a telegram
(Serial No. 149) from His Majesty’s Minister at Tehran.
2. Their Lordships will see that Sir P. Loraine has already been able to
obtain from the Persian Prime Minister very satisfactory assurances ot ms
intention to take immediate steps for the suppression of disorder m the South-
Eastern provinces, and the Secretary of State is of opinion that the moment
has now arrived when the offer should be made to the Persian Government oi
the Mirjawa-Duzdap section of the Nushki extension railway as a free gm.
3 . The political effect at this moment of such an act of generosity is likely
to be considerable, and I am to urge that Their Lordships may b® ^
agree to the proposal made in my letter (Enclosure to Serial No. Ib4) oi tnc
25th ultimo, that Sir P. Loraine be given immediate authority to b an y ov ®
the railway to the Persian Government, leaving the question of the incidence
of the cost involved in this proposal to be decided in subsequent correspo
dence between the departments concerned.
