4 We have just received by this mail a letter from our
Aden House in connection ,ith restrictions of exports from
that place to the various Red Rea Ports. For your inform
ation we give you an extract of the letter in question as
follows
" ETQPPLGE OF EXPORT ATION. This is due to the senseless
system of guarantee bonds which have to be given for
all shipments made. -Same are made out by shipper '
guaranteeing payment of double the value in case goods
are not landed correctly at port of destination;
two guarantors have to be found for each bond and three

are returned or the amount guaranteed deposited in hard
cash. The result is that all the big merchants
practically, as well as- a number of European Houses ar'
black listed, and unable to move a single package.
This means that we may be anable to move the 65 cases &&
Somali Rider Shirtings, and the 40 bales White Thobs,
;hich ;e wired you on the 15th ulto. to send forward
to us as soon as possible. Such conditions makes
trading here quite out of the question, and stocks
cannot be shipped to the r>edSea Ports. Japanese Greys
are arriving here in big quantities at such low prices
which will, we feel, have grave effects on the disposal
of all stocks unless shipping prohibitions are
immediately removed.”
You will see from the above report sent by our Aden House
that business is practically suspended in Aden, and has teen
