to their representations. This seemed to me an Illogical
attitude in the face of all the evidence produced to the
contrary and in view of the fact that the attitude of His
Majesty’s Government in regard to raiding in general had
been clearly shown by the results which, as he himself
recognised, had been achieved in respect of the raiding on
the Iraq frontier* I could assure him however that the
whole matter was engaging the urgent attention of Hie
Majesty ’s Government«
6 . Sheikh Fuad went on to say that this question
was of particular concern to the leja* Government as tha
f constant interchange of protests was the one element of
discord in the otherwise harmonious relatione between the
two Governments.
7* H® was anxious that combined action should be
taken on the frontier by His Majesty’s Government and the
Hejaz Government and that it should thus be made apparent
to the tribes that the two Governments were acting in
cooperation and wore determined to put a stop to the raids.
8 . He referred in this connect Ion to the expedition
which had been sent from Medina to control the situation
on the Hejd aide, and he stated that instructions had been
i given to the leader of this force to puniah all raiders
found in Hejd territory but that he was not to crosa the
frontier.

Arrangement

The papers are arranged in approximate chronological order from the rear to the front of the volume. The subject 57 (Iraq-Nejd Relations) consists of sixteen volumes, IOR/L/PS/10/1234-1249. The volumes are divided into nineteen parts, with each part comprising one volume, apart from parts 4-5, 7-8, and 17-18, which each comprise a single volume.

Physical characteristics

Foliation: the foliation sequence (used for referencing) commences at the first folio with 1 and terminates at the last folio with 888; these numbers are written in pencil, are circled, and are located in the top right corner of the recto The front of a sheet of paper or leaf, often abbreviated to 'r'. side of each folio. An additional foliation sequence is present in parallel between ff 338-888; these numbers are also written in pencil, but are not circled. The foliation sequence does not include the front and back covers, nor does it include the leading and ending flyleaves.
