The item consists of correspondence regarding the capture and plundering of a British ship, the Hector , by the Shaikh of Nuckholoo [Nokhaylo], also referred to as the Shaikh of Busheab [Lavan]. The correspondence is particularly concerned with the potential for assistance from the Government of Persia [Iran] in the recovery of the plundered property, particularly after the death of the Shaikh. It also covers a lawsuit against the owner of the Hector and the disappearance of the ship’s master and mate.
The correspondence consists of letters between the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. and the Resident at Bushire.
