Daily report of January 30th.
i • from reliable source states that Soulet has informed
ostile Khans in reply to their importunities that if they want his co-operation
against Bushire either they or Wassmuss must produce funds for the main
tenance of force of 1,500 to 2,000 men.
As regards Kawam further reports state that the inhabitants of Lar have
refused him admittance to Lar while his own tribesmen have refused
is son admittance to Darab. If confirmed, this indicates that his own
tribes are out of hand and that he is not likely to be of much use to us
without support of troops or co-operation with Soulet; also that usual tribal
raids on Bunder Abbas and Lingah will probably be indulged in by these
rebels but no immediate anxiety.
BaJchtiaris.—-Doctor Young is with Khans and Grahame about to join them
at ttamuz. In view of former’s confident reports Minister is now satisfied of
present intentions of? two Khans and has authorised treaty negotiations com-
mencmg forthwith at Ramuz. On conclusion he agrees to Khans proceeding
t( ? RQhbohan accompanied by Grahame and Haji Rais in order to control
afiairs there and suppress Mullah Seyyid Esa who continues to preach jehad.
Meanwhile Sheikh of Mohammerah has sent emissary ahead to endeavour
to detach Seyyid’s following.

About this item

Content

The volume contains correspondence regarding the Persian Campaign of the First World War and the movements and activities of the Central Powers in Persia [Iran] between November 1915 and April 1916. The correspondence is particularly concerned with German and Ottoman attempts to infiltrate Afghanistan from Persia, and of ensuring the continued neutrality of both Afghanistan and Persia.

The primary correspondents are the British Legation, Tehran; the British Consulate, Seistan and Kain; and the Government of India.

The volume contains a single folio in French (f 164), a communication from the National Committee for the Protection of the Independence of Persia.

The volume includes a divider which gives the subject number, the year the subject file was opened, the subject heading, and a list of correspondence references by year. This is placed at the back of the correspondence.
