The Embassy in Pair is repoi't a ^teclaration to the
French press made recently by Mr* Subbaiah, who was
elected to the Conseil de la Republi<^as a Representative
of the French Establishments in India*
In this Declaration Mr. Snbbaiah states that the
majority of the Political parties in French India have
asked the French Goverment to grant French India complete
political autonomy so that the territories may prepare
for fusion withPre^India. Further, that any
hesitation dtt- Imperialist intentions can only
serve to estrange the people of French India and to force
them to take their own decisions.
It will be recalled that Mr. Subbaiah, who is
wanted for arrest by the Madras Police, is a British
Subject but holds a French Diplomatic Passport. He left
French India recently for Paris but has not yet taken his
seat in the Gonseil de la Republi^in consequence of the
decision of the court at Pondicherry regarding his
nationality. Warning has been given to all concerned
that Mr. Subbaiah is not to be given a visa for India.
