A long debate too]: place on the T Iraq Currency
Law during which the Minister for Finance objected to the
recoLiuendation of the Economic and Finance Committees
regarding ohe silver content of the coinage and insisted
that it should be 50$ as proposed by the Government and
not 900 in 1,000 as the commit tee shad recommended.
Ibrahim al Xabir, the Accountant General, whose
presence in the Chamber was considered necessary, gave a
full explanation of the various ways adopted by f oreigi
states in preparing their gold and silver coinage. He
also explained how it was more convenient and economic to
the T Iraq Government to mahe the silver content of the new
coinage 50$.
Subsequently the proposal of the Government and
the recommendation of the committees were put to the vote,
and the Government proposal was passed by the Chamber.
The Minister for Finance made a proposal to
change the period of three months referred to in Article
EG of the Bill to six months. The Chamber agreed to this
proposal.
The third reading of the above Bill was placed on
the agenda of the next meeting which was fixed for Tuesday,
24th March, 1931.
