2, X passed on the text of Cable and Wireless s reply
quoted in your letter, to the oil companies in my letter to
Ballantyne No. Ext. 2222+74-6 of 30th March, of which copies
were sent to you and the other interested Departments. I
have now heard from Ballantyne that his companies are agreeable
to the terms in Cable and Wireless letter except that under
heading 4 they would like the words ''by the Oil Companies
radio installations" replaced by the words "by the Bahrein
Petroleum Company's radio inste.lla.tions''* The reason for this
is, I understand, that the Arabian Company feel that ohey
could hardly agree to Cable and .dr el ess's wording without
reference to the Saudi Arabian Government and tnis they
wish to avoid having to do.
3, So far as this Office is concerned I can sec no^
objection to the Bahrein Petroleum Company's proposed wording,
but there may be other implica.tions. If you see no oDjection,
perhaps you would square Cable and ..ireless end I could then
inform Ballentyne if their agreement is forthcoming. The w<_y
would then be clear for obtaining the formal agreement of the
C.C.C. to the revised arrangement.
4. I am sending copies of this letter to David (Foreign Office),
Lewis (G.P. 0) and Leonard- Williams (W. T.B. )
Yours sincerely,
