Dear Mr. Harrison, v«.. ——✓
I an in receipt of yoiar letter of yesterday^ date on the
subject of Radio-telephone communications between Bahrein and Saudi-
hrabia, and in which you ask me to let you knew whether there is a
likelihood of my Company being able to let you have a reply before
long.
On the 6th June I received a cable from my Company to the
effect that authorisation was being made for the peyment of the token
payment of £100 and asking that the name of the Arabian -American Oil
Company be excluded fror:. the H e ceipt as that Company declines to be a
party to any further token peyment. I might explain that the Receipts,
hitherto received, have been in the name, and I think rightly in the
name, of The Bahrein Petroleum Co. Ltd., alone. On this J communicated
with Cable and Wireless Ltd., suggesting we drop the idea of £100 token
payment altogether but on second thoi^hts I felt we should continue it
and told them so.
Since then, namely yesterday, I/,received a long letter contain
ing the views of the A ra bian -American Oil Company, from which it appears
that that Company labours under the impression that it appears in this
matter as paying a part of the token payment, a fear which is certainly
not justified either by the form of the Receipt or by the facts as I know
them. I should imagine that they want to avoid any possibility of com
plications arising with the Saudi-Arab Government.
I await a letter from The Bahrein Petroleum Co. Ltd. explaining
their position, a letter I am promised with in the next few days. When I
receive it I hope to come and see you and discuss this matter, prior to
further communication by letter.
