3. Efficiency.
(a) The purpose of this Corps may be taken in itself, and
by approval of the British Government epitomized in their
appointment of a British Officer thereto, to give prestige
to the State Government.
w As there was no occasion during the period under review
to use these troops to deal with hostile' people, their work
mainly consisted in the maintenance of Baitel Felej which
commands the only communication to the interior, in providing
Guards and in furnishing Ceremonial duties. In addition they
were used in making a Road from Muscat to Sib a distance, over
difficult country of 36^ miles, an account of which is given
under paragraph ?.

(d) Musketry .
The 1926 Musketry return, over an improvised Course, on
my taking over, shewed a satisfactory state of efficiency. In
1927 it was determined to fire the usual Indian Army Course.
A two months Musketry Course was therefore carried out and good
results

The volume contains letters, telegrams and memoranda relating to the adherence of Sultan Saiyid Taimur Bin Faisal bin Turki [Taymūr bin Fayṣal] to an arms convention and correspondence relating to the development of the Muscat Levy Corps, including its purpose, staffing, munitions and armaments.

The volume includes a report (ff 12-21) by Captain R W G Stephens, Commandant Muscat Infantry, on the Muscat Levy Corps – its efficiency, discipline, budget and finances, armaments and recommendations. Also included are some 'rough notes' written in 1928 (ff 26-28) by the Financial Adviser to the Sultan of Muscat and Oman (Bertram Sidney Thomas).

In addition, there is a printed copy of the 'Convention for the control of the trade in arms and ammunition, and protocol, signed at Saint-Germain-en-Laye, September 10, 1916' (ff 136-143).
