196/S. Your telegram of 30th January* Bushire operations.
t appears light bombing of villages was carried/on 8th
January and on learning of this Government of India vetoed
resumption without express orders. Definite terms hove been
offered uo rebel Khans and local authorities supported by
Cox recommend repetition of bombing if Khans do not
surrender. They also propose that South. Persian Hi fie o
should carry out operations without British troops which
will only be employed to guard railway and road. Inspector-
General of South Persian Rifles is confident of capability
of his force to do this and we recommend that this proposal
be sanctioned subject to proviso that withdrawal oi tne
troops is not delayed after 1st April. As to aerial
bombing we recommend that this be left to discretion of
local authorities.
Addressed to Secretary of State and repeated to Tearan,
Bushire and Shiras.
