Seventy principal merchants now at Leh (petition) com
plaining of the depreciation and non-currency of the Chilkee
rupee, and of the difficulty experienced in obtaining
supplies.
How disposed of.
Ramdass, contractor, Kooloo mule train, complaining that he
can only get paid for carriage in Chilkees, which are in
convertible into English rupees Indian silver coin also widely used in the Persian Gulf. or bills on the Punjab, ex
cept at a ruinous loss.
Abdool Wahab, age 12, son of late Karee Akhoond, Yarkun-
dee merchani, complaining of misappropriation of pro
perty by a Baboo at Holta, near Palampore, and of theft
there; also of the exaction of octroi duty at Sooltanpoor
Kooloo, on goods of his which changed hands without
bulk being broken.
Yar Mahomed Khan, brother of Eaiz Mahomed Khan,
Afghan merchant, complaining of the seizure of 10
maunds, 85 seers of churrus in the Bijnore District, on ac
count of absence of seals on the packages and informality
of the 'permit' obtained at Sedlkot.

To-day the Joint-Commissioners held a sitting for the disposal of cases (see
copy of register appended).
It was determined (subject to approval of Government) that, as regards the
business of the Joint-Commissioners' Court, one vernacular file of cases should
be kept, which should remain (as a rule) in Ladakh, and from which copies
can be furnished when required. In addition to this, each Joint-Commissioner
separately will keep his own register of cases and his own notes of evidence, &c.
To-day the Joint-Commissioners sat again (see register appended.
A company of about a dozen Koon&warees, who have just arrived came to pay
their respects. They furnished information regarding the trade routes
leading from Koonawar, which has been communicated separately. They
have also been able to afford considerable information regarding the trade
of that region, which will be embodied in future reports after comparison
with independent statements. ^
