, h acknowledging the receipt of your letter No. 346—1047 dated the
iLth September 1871, forwarding Mr. Shaw’s diary from the 13th to the 19th
August 1871, I am directed to enquire what steps, if any, have been taken to
prevent the mule contractors from applying the Government subsidy to the
carrying on ot their own private trade, and also to ensure their supplying the
