With reference to your letter No. 1238 P, dated the 16th June
last, I am directed to forward/for the information of the Government
of India, the enclosed copy of a letter, with accompaniments, from

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter as per margin,*

2. I beg to annex a copy of a letter* which I have addressed to the Politi-

3. The documents under acknowledgment reached me by the mail now
in. Before that date Her Majesty’s steamer had rendezvoused with the
senior naval officer at Angaum, and the latter officer had directed her to
return to Bombay, as there was no immediate need for her presence in the

4. In the absence of Her Majesty’s steamer Lynx, I have requested Com-
