Turkish flag flying at Biddah. Turkish steamer arrived off there with a
JCoweit boat; boat went in with Koweit Chief and Turkish officer; Turkish flag
given to Biddah Chief; he was told he must hoist it; I think he did so willingly.
Lynx goes Bombay tomorrow.
I go to Lingah to meet mails and return.

Translated purport of a letter from Mahomed bin Tani, Chief of Guttur, to Resident,

I wrote to you some time ago and expressed my friendly feelings, fearing
other evil reports might reach you about me.
My boat was leaving Kuteef confident of safety. I heard the Bahrein
people seized her. I am unaware whether they have detained her or not. I
wished to inform you of this, as you would not permit a breach of the peace at
sea, as you are just in your proceedings and we depend on you.

In regard to your complaint, that certain craft belonging to your people had
been plundered by some of the Alsehat and others, I would invite you, on the
next visit of my Assistant to the Coast, to send a deputy on board the steamer,
with powers to confer with a person whom the Chief of Bahrein will be invited
to depute for this purpose. Enquiry might then be made, and an equitable
arbitration arrived at.

These include: reports by the Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. munshi A term used in the Middle East, Persia and South Asia to refer to a secretary, assistant or amanuensis. Munshis were employed in the British administration in the Gulf. , and the Commander of HM Gunboat Hugh Rose on Turkish operations; a report by Major Edward Charles Ross, Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. and Consul, Muscat, that the Turkish warships Lebanon and Iskenderia had left Muscat for the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. , and that more Turkish naval vessels were to follow; reports on the affairs of Guttur [Qatar], in relation to the Turkish expedition; further reports on Turkish operations, including two by the commander of HMS Magpie ; and correspondence from the Ruler of Bahrein [Bahrain] and Saood bin Fysul [Saud ibn Faisal ibn Turki Āl Sa‘ūd].

The Enclosures are dated 27 October - 25 November 1871.
