8. Her Majesty’s Ship Bullfinch also suffered, and her Commander found
himself compelled to leave the Gulf in view to replacing his European by
Native firemen at Muscat or elsewhere. This ship, however, will thus be
present at the recognition of His Highness Syud Toorkee.
9. I he Gun-boat Hugh Hosb is just returned from Bahrein with Assis
tant Hesident Major Smith on board, and the condition of this officer’s health
will not permit of my again deputing him to the Arab Coast at present.
10. Captain Grant, the 2nd Assistant, is on the sick list, hut so soon as he
recovers I purpose sending him in Hugh Hose to Bahrein, in view to watching
affairs and keeping up intelligence.

These include: reports by the Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. munshi A term used in the Middle East, Persia and South Asia to refer to a secretary, assistant or amanuensis. Munshis were employed in the British administration in the Gulf. , and the Commander of HM Gunboat Hugh Rose on Turkish operations; a report by Major Edward Charles Ross, Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. and Consul, Muscat, that the Turkish warships Lebanon and Iskenderia had left Muscat for the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. , and that more Turkish naval vessels were to follow; reports on the affairs of Guttur [Qatar], in relation to the Turkish expedition; further reports on Turkish operations, including two by the commander of HMS Magpie ; and correspondence from the Ruler of Bahrein [Bahrain] and Saood bin Fysul [Saud ibn Faisal ibn Turki Āl Sa‘ūd].

The Enclosures are dated 27 October - 25 November 1871.
