In continuation of our despatch, No. 187, dated 81st Octo
ber 1871, we have the honor to forward a further collection of papers, as speci
fied in the accompanying Abstract of Contents, on the subject of the settlement
of the Perso-Belooch Erontier.
2. The letter of Her Majesty’s Minister at Teheran to Her Majesty’s Secre
tary of State for Eoreign Affairs, dated 5th September 187L No. 181 (forming
No. 15 of the Abstract), contains the acceptance by the Persian Government of
the line of demarcation determined by General Goldsmid. . But we perceive

(No. 17 of Abstract). tive at Teheran to Her Majesty s Secretary of State
for Foreign Affairs that the Shah’s Minister in London has been charged to raise
the question as to the sovereignty of the district of Kohuk; and we have
to-day received Tour Excellency’s despatch No. 11, dated 24th November, on the
subject. To the question thus raised we will give our early attention.
3 We have communicated to Major-General Sir F. Goldsmid our warm
acknowledgments for the patience, firmness, and ability which have characterized
his proceedings in the discharge of the difficult duty entrusted to him. It is,

satisfactory settlement of this important boundary is due. We trust that we

Letter and Enclosures to HM Secretary of State for India, dated 20 December 1871, concerning the settlement of the frontier between Persia and Khelat [Kalāt], in Beloochistan [Baluchistan]. The frontier settlement mission was led by Major-General Frederick John Goldsmid.

The papers include: correspondence from Charles Alison, HBM's Minister at Teheran [Tehran]; correspondence from Goldsmid; the Persian Government's acceptance of the frontier settlement; reports of diplomatic contacts with the Persian Minister of Foreign Affairs; the raising by the Persian Government of a question over the status of Kohuk; and the congratulations of the Government of India to Goldsmid and his staff for the conduct of the settlement.

The Enclosures are dated 13 August - 19 December 1871.
