dersigned proposes, with the concurrence of the Persian Govern
ment, that, for purposes of future reference and identification, he shall obta'"
the services of an experienced English officer of engineers, who mav meet
officer duly appointed by the Government of Persia and an officer from the
Khelat State, so as to lay down the more prominent land-marks and featur
of the actual line agreeably to the above description, and make a careful
survey thereof for record. This subordinate commission should meet as earlv
as practicable in Gwuttur Bay and proceed upward, from the boundary terminnc
between the Rivers Balm and Dusht, to Talk or the neighbourhood, submit tin o*
the result of their work in the form of a map to the representative of He?*
Britannic Majesty’s Government and the Persian Government at Teheran.
The undersigned begs to offer his sincere congratulations to the Govern
ment of the Shah on the happy termination of this troublesome question and
on the consequent removal of those serious causes of trouble and anxiety which
disturbed the harmonious relations so desirable to cultivate between the
authorities of Great Britain and Persia; and he has the honor to renew to His

Letter and Enclosures to HM Secretary of State for India, dated 20 December 1871, concerning the settlement of the frontier between Persia and Khelat [Kalāt], in Beloochistan [Baluchistan]. The frontier settlement mission was led by Major-General Frederick John Goldsmid.

The papers include: correspondence from Charles Alison, HBM's Minister at Teheran [Tehran]; correspondence from Goldsmid; the Persian Government's acceptance of the frontier settlement; reports of diplomatic contacts with the Persian Minister of Foreign Affairs; the raising by the Persian Government of a question over the status of Kohuk; and the congratulations of the Government of India to Goldsmid and his staff for the conduct of the settlement.

The Enclosures are dated 13 August - 19 December 1871.
