With reference to the correspondence on the subject of the settlement of
Dated 4th September isti, No. 185. the Perso-Belooch frontier, ending with your letters

you the warm acknowledgments of the Viceroy and Goyernor-General in Coun
cil for the patience, firmness, and ability which have characterized your pro
ceedings in the discharge of the difficult duty entrusted to you. His Excellency
the Governor-General in Council considers that it is mainly to your tact and
sound judgment that the satisfactory settlement of this important boundary is
due.
2. His Excellency in Council desires that you will convey to Captain Evan
Smith and Captain B. Lovett, B.E., both of your staff, the thanks of the
Government of India for the valuable assistance rendered to you.
3. His Excellency in Council further desires that you will express to
Quarter-master-Serjeant Bower, B.E., and Mirza Hossein, your Moonshee, the
high opinion entertained by the Government of India of the value of their
services.

With reference to the correspondence ending with the letter from this
Office, dated 4th October 1871, No. 2105P., I am directed to request that the
thanks of the Government of India may be conveyed to Major A. H. Harrison,
Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. at Khelat, and to Hr. Bowman, Medical Officer of that Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. ,
for the valuable assistance rendered to Major-General Sir E. Goldsmid in con
nection with the settlement of the Perso-Belooch frontier.
I am at the same time desired to forward, for the information of the
Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. , a further collection of papers on the subject, as speci
fied in the accompanying list, and to add that, for the present, the orders of
Her Majesty’s Secretary of State should be awaited before intimation of the
boundary settled is given to the Khan of Khelat. On this point a further
communication will be made hereafter.

Letter and Enclosures to HM Secretary of State for India, dated 20 December 1871, concerning the settlement of the frontier between Persia and Khelat [Kalāt], in Beloochistan [Baluchistan]. The frontier settlement mission was led by Major-General Frederick John Goldsmid.

The papers include: correspondence from Charles Alison, HBM's Minister at Teheran [Tehran]; correspondence from Goldsmid; the Persian Government's acceptance of the frontier settlement; reports of diplomatic contacts with the Persian Minister of Foreign Affairs; the raising by the Persian Government of a question over the status of Kohuk; and the congratulations of the Government of India to Goldsmid and his staff for the conduct of the settlement.

The Enclosures are dated 13 August - 19 December 1871.
