Letter and Enclosures to HM Secretary of State for India, dated 20 December 1871, concerning the proposed appointment of a British Agent in Yezd [Yazd]. The proposal came in response to a memorial from British traders at Bushire and Bunder Abbass [Bandar Abbas], and was designed to protect the traders' commercial interests.

The papers show that the Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. , Lieutenant-Colonel Lewis Pelly, was in favour of the proposal. However, the response of the British Government was that consideration was being postponed in view of the state of southern Persia, following famine.

The Enclosures include correspondence from Pelly, and Messrs. Gray, Paul, and Company Limited (on behalf of the traders).

The Enclosures are dated 12 January-25 November 1871.
