In continuation of my letter dated tlie 14th ultimo, No 4390 I
have the honor, by direction of His Excellency the Governor in
Council, to forward, for the information of the Government of India
the accompanying copies of news reports received from the

NEWS REPORT.
No. 1028—278, dated Bushire, the 12th September 1871.
It is officially reported that cholera has re-appeared at Lingah, and that
six or seven deaths occur daily from this cause.
It is stated that cholera is very had at Kateef, and has also broken out in
the Turkish camp at Lahsa.
Small-pox of a very virulent form is said to have broken out in Gwuttur,
and that the inhabitants are in such alarm that a small-pox patient is removed
out of the town at once.
In Bushire the poor still die from starvation. On the morning of the 4th
the bodies of five women were reported to be lying along the shore line close
to the Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. , and were only interred after a reference to the local
authorities.

Tranquillity has continued in all parts of Oman. Numbers of Bedoos
have visited Muscat to pay their respects to His Highness the Sultan and
receive gratuities. Two Turkish war vessels under Commodore Arif Bey
touched at JVluscat on their way to the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. . They had come from
Constantinople through the canal. Her Majesty ships Bullfinch and Magpie
have called in at Muscat from the Gulf.
