In continuation of our despatch No. 214, dated 20th Decem
ber 1871, we have the honor to forward, for the information of Her Majesty’s
Government, a copy of a letter from the Government of Bombay, No. 5704, dated
27th November 1871, and of its enclosure, reporting the proceedings connected
with the formal recognition of His Highness Syud Toorkee as Ruler of Muscat.
2. We have concurred in the approval expressed by the Bombay Govern
ment of the Political Agent’s proceedings on the occasion.

Letter and Enclosure to HM Secretary of State for India, dated 27 December 1871, concerning the formal recognition of Syud Toorkee [Sayyid Turkī bin Sa‘īd Āl Bū Sa‘īd] as Ruler of Muscat.

Often referred to as The Gulf or the Arabian Gulf. ; and Major Edward Charles Ross, Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. and Consul, Muscat.

The papers record that the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. , the officers of HMS Bullfinch , and 'all the English gentlemen at present in Muscat' were received by the new Sultan, and that a twenty-one gun salute was fired by the Bullfinch .

The papers also contain a copy of a letter from Syud Toorkee.
