SARAKHS (Russian)—contd.
in the Harirud. The Persians, in accordance
with instructions from Tehran, said they were
only there to discuss the subject of the illegal
capture of sheep.

Again repeats rumour that a large number of fresh
troops are coming to Sarakhs destined for Zulfi-
kar and Ak-robat, also about the collection of
large quantities of supplies.

About 300 Turkomans were sent out to-day to
clear the roads for the passage of guns. A pro
clamation was issued in the bazar that all camels
should be reserved for Government transport.

fantry barracks has been ordered for Sarakhs.

Turbat-i-Shaikh Jam,
11th April 1891.
From 100 to 200 camel-loads of flour have been
despatched daily during the last few days to Pul-
i-Khatun and Ak-robat.
A special messenger who was sent to Pul-i-Khatun
reports that by orders of a Russian officer the
road had been levelled as far as Burj-i-Karawal
Khana* and Daulatabad, and that afterwards
100 Turkoman sowars and some Cossacks had
been sent to Ak-robat. Supplies are being
collected at the latter place.

Rahman Kulit received a blank paper from Mai-
mana, sealed by four + of the principal men, and
despatched it to Ashkabad to the Governor-Ge
neral.
It is reported that Ghaus-ud-din Khan, command
ing the troops at Maimana, sent a letter to the
Governor of Panjdeh expressing his friendship
for Russia. §
Rahman Kuli and Haji Ishan have written
letters to the Governor of Maimana, urging him
to throw in his lot with the Russian Govern
ment.

letter from General Kuropatkin urging him, with
many promises of future benefits, to collect all
the information he can of the feelings and move
ments of the Afghan troops in Afghan Turkis-
tan.
