4 . In the construction of this Order and of any rules, regulati

or Orders made thereunder the following w T ords and express,
have the meaning hereby assigned to them, unless there be some
thing in the subject or context repugnant thereto, that is to say :—
“ Administration ” means letters of administration, includ
ing the same with wall annexed, or granted for special or limited
purposes, or limited in duration.

of this Order.

“ British ship ” means a merchant ship, being a British ship ,
within the meaning of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1894,1 •
and, except where the context otherwise requires, includes a
ship belonging to any British subject as herein defined.
“ Foreigner ” means any person not a British or Kuwait
subject.
“ Judicial Assistant ” means the officer for the time being
appointed by the Secretary of State or with his previous or
subsequent assent, by the Governor-General of India in Coun
cil to be Judicial Assistant to the Political Resident.
“ Chief Court ” means a Court held by the Political Resident
as hereinafter defined.
“ District Court ” means a Court held by the Political Agent
or by the Judicial Assistant.
The Court ” means a Court held by the Political Resident,
the Political Agent, or the Judicial Assistant to the Political
"Joint Court” means a court composed of the Political
Agent &nd the Sheikh of Q,atar or their representatives.^^

British subject ” means and includes
( 1 ) any person who is a British subject as defined in the
British Nationality and Status of Aliens Act, 1914 ;
( 2 ) British protected persons;
( 3 ) any corporation incorporated under the law of any
part of.His Majesty’s dominions, protectorates, protected

£ “ Kuwait subject ” means a subject of the Shaikh of K**w?rit\
or any person, not being a British subject, who is the national
of any other Muslim State.
