The day before yesterday the Ameer summoned his son Mahomed Yacoob
Khan to a private apartment, and, after saying that he (the Sirdar) has gained
nothing but infamy by his recent misconduct, continued as follows:
-f “ Y° u ^nve brought disgrace on me throughout the world.
II- “ You have caused yourself to be notorious as disobedient to your
parents. J
HI- “The people of Afghanistan geherally have been ruined by frequent
movements of troops.
IV. —Murder and assassination have occurred in our family, and this has
become a subject of perpetual anxiety.
V. “ The State has sustained a loss of about one cvove of rupees (corres
ponding with ten millions).”
The Sirdar gave no reply, but burst forth into tears and acknowledged him
self to blame (for the above).
The Ameer then said as follows:
“ If you much desire to obtain the management of Herat Province, I do
not feel more affection for any one else than yourself. You should make pre-
* Governor of jeikiabad. parations with all speed to go to Herat. Meer
t Nasiree, late agent of the Ameer at Akhor Ahmed Khan* will be your Naib, and
Heiat ' Sirdar Abdoolla Khanf will act under him. Gene
ral Hafeezoolla Khan will command the army, and you will receive about ten
thousand rupees cash for road expenses. As regards your family, you are at
liberty to take them now or on New T Year’s Hay to Herat. I shall, however,
reserve the power of transferring you to myself. I may transfer you after six
months or a year.”
After the above representations, orders were given for preparations being
made for Sirdar Mahomed Yacoob Khan and the above-mentioned officers to
leave, and the advance guard of the Sirdar w r as sent to Heh-boree.
The Sirdar himself has also gone to Heh-boree to-day, and will march
thence the day after to-morrow (corresponding with 21st September). The
two Herat! infantry regiments at Cabul have also been ordered to go to Herat.

Khan, a trusted agent of Sirdar Ma- door Khan, the agent at Herat, and Pukeer Ma
homed Yacoob Khan. homed Khan, commandant of the army, to Cabul,
on his arrival at Herat, under a guard or surveillance, in order that no anxiety
may be felt in future regarding disturbances being raised in that Province.
The Sirdar has agreed to send them to Cabul, and said that undoubtedly all the
recent disturbances have been instigated by them.
A letter from one Sheikh Ismael* to address of Sirdar Mahomed Yacoob
* Resident of Soonee Khana, in the Khan, regarding Persian matters, is herewith sent

places little reliance on this news. The Ameer has sent his Peshkhidmut
La 11 Mahomed Khan to Hurrah to bring the army at that place (to Cabul). His
