This shows the feeling of the tribe
towards His Highness, when even the
Chief Guzzen does not address him.
They attacked Poolagee shortly after
this, which His Highness has ventured
to attribute to Captain Sandeman.
R. P.
8 . I should not have alluded to the above, had you not though! it ad
visable that reports of this kind should be contradicted. Before leaving the
subject, it may not he out of place to quote His Highness’s own words :
“ To the best of my knowledge, nothing has occurred to warrant the
statements made b^ the press that these misrepresentations have evidently
been made by adherents of the late Jam of Beyla.
“ I feel there are difficulties to contend with, such as must fall to the lot
of a sovereign undertaking the rule of a new province, but am convinced that
in the course of a few months, the people of Beyla will have every reason to
be satisfied and contented.”
9. A letter just received from Shagassee, Goolam Jan, states that the
high price of grain, and a bad harvest in prospective, may press heavily on the
people, otherwise that they are quite and contented. He also reports that he
has sent for Misree Mfill and Meer Mundoo, with the view of adjusting the
dispute, particulars of which were given in my letter No. 19.
10. His Highness’s allusion to the Murree* tribe, and cause of dispute
. Referring to Captain Sandeman 'Mweeii the Affghan and Persian Governments
and the visit to Kaimn. were noted in my Diary of 17th May lo70, and
R ‘ p ‘ need no recapitulation. On the 6 th instant, His
Highness received a letter from some of the Murree tribe, hut could not find
out by whom it had been delivered, it was so far
certified that Mehroola and Shore Mahomed’s seals
were affixed; the substance of the communication
was qs follows— viz.: that they were well disposed
towards His Highness, acknowledged him as their
ruler, Wd hoped that when opportunity offered, he
would employ them in his service; \that they were aware of the acis of the
tribe had not been such as to meet with his approval, that they themselves
•were his well-wishers, but could not cpntrol the behaviour of the ill-disposed
who dwelt in the hills.
\
11. The relative positions between His Highness and Sirdars are the
same as stated in December last. Sirdar Meah Khan, the late Jam of Beyla, is,
as you know, located at Hyderabad, Sindh; Moolah Mahomed, the Xtaisanee
Chief, has been in Cabool and Candahar since the end of last year. Latest
accounts of him state that the Ameer had given him Bs. 3,000, and had pio-
mised to ask the English Government to interfere on his behalf. His Highness
appeared anxious to know whether I thought it likely that the Ameer s request
would be complied with, and what course of action he might anticipate. I re-
1 , nlied that I did hot think my Government would
ri EnMy premature and unautho- ^ ^ ^ if they didj it WO uld be
R - p - then time to re-cpnsider the subject.
12. Sirdar Noordeen was, as previously stated, en route to Candahar
about the latter end of April; nothing has since been heard of him. His wife
and family are still at Wnd. The proposition made by the chief men of the
Mingul tribe, viz., that one of their numbef should remain at Khelat with a
few followers,’ relieving each other from time tb time, was at once complied
with by His Highness, and Sirdar Meah MahoAed arrived soon after the taking
of Beyla, the other chief men of the tribe have been at Khelat for a few days,
having business to transact with His Highness.
Sirdars Ala Deenah and Wudeerah Adum Khan, when I last alluded
to them, were at S^ebee, and declined to return
to their country, unless His Highness furnished
them with a written order, saying that he had
forgiven them, and that they were at liberty to re
turn ; though, this onder was given, they preferred
remaining at Seebee. Yar Mahomed, son of Ala*Deenah, was at Khelat a feu
days ago,"and had an interview with His Highness; the object of this visit
11
13.
It was represented last year, that
they were so contented, that 'hey had
gone to their homes, hut they have no
confidence in the Khan’s promises
