An Urdu translation of a Hindee letter lately received from a correspondent
at Bokhara is enclosed.
Translation of letter dated 15th Assoo 1928=29th September 1871, from the correspondent
at Bokhara (to the Agent at Cabul).
After the despatch of my last letter I fell sick and have, therefore, been
unable to write to you since. The disease under which I suffered is now over,
but weakness has much incapacitated me. Previously I wrote to you that some
Bussian troops had gone to undertake an expedition at Oorgunj, but I now
find that these troops have been encamped at 40 koss from Samarcand;
for what purpose I know not. It has also been reported that some troops have
been deputed from Tashkend to Kashgar.

Naib Mahomed Alum Khan, Governor of Turkistan, has sent the follow
ing presents to the Ameer by hand of his trusted Agent, Meer Hussein Beg,
alias Wukeel-ood-Dowla, and they have been accepted by His Highness :—
1. Gold “ Batiskas” (a Bussian coin), two thousand.
2. Bokhara gold “ Tillas” (6^ Bupees each), seven thousand.
3. Bokhara “ Tungas” (three tungas = 1 Bnpee), thirty thousand.
4. Camels of double humps and with large hair, twenty.
5. Horses, twenty-one.
6. Tents, large, two.
7. Some miscellaneous articles of Turkistan.
