My name is Ismail; my father’s name ,
is Ibrahim Beg, of the Bavoodeb tribe • '
Turkish subject; Shafaee sect of Islam •
my age is 25 years, and I am married. '
With my 12 men I was last Priday
going with the head clerk and Taboor
Aghasee to meet the Mutserif Hashim
Pasha. We reached Tawook. As the place
was much crowded they sent me to
Imam Zein-el-Ahodin village. At mid
day, while I wms asleep, a disturbance
arose, that three Hamawund horsemen
had come and plundered some sheep,
and I got up, collected my men, and
rode to a stream near the Imam. I saw
these three horsemen running after Tah-
maz Zabtieh of Tawook, and, in order to
prevent mischief, I sent word to Taboor
Aghasee, and in the meantime Nejib
and Mahomed, two of the soldiers, came
to me near the stream wdiile the rebels
were in sight in the distance. We pur
sued. In a short distance I met a
shepherd, who told me that these rebels
were four horsemen and had been wan
dering in those places for the last three
or four days. Our soldiers then came
up and we followed the brigands
and caught them in the winter pas
ture ground of Kalkanloo. Pirst, Syud
Kasim and this Shah Biza and their
companions fired three shots at us.
They did not hit us. Our troops fired
some shots at them, but did not hit
them. Afterwards we and they loaded
our arms and exchanged firing at each
other. One of our men, Nejib, went
forward and fired a pistol at Syud Kasim
and hit him near his right ear; the ball
came out of his left eye; he fell to the
ground, and the other Nejib fired a
pistol at Shah Biza; the ball hit the
palm of his hand and we seized him. Of
i he shots fired by them one ball hit our
Suliman’s mare and killed her. We then
rode after the other two ; but, owing to
the excess of thirst and .the time being
very late, near sunset, we could not over
take them. They ran away.
