Ilecommandee. of 20tli. Ottoman Porte appear in error. Mes-
r ^$enger not murdered on mainland, bnt on island of Bahrein, and said not to have
borne any credentials by which, he could be distinguished as messenger of
Turkish General.

To—Foreign Secretary, Calcutta.
Colonel Pellt telegraphs as follows :—“ Bahrein, 16th November. Arrived
here eleventh, found Lynx and Survey Schooner Constance; Hugh Bose
since arrived. Saood after partial success was defeated near Lahsa, and returned
to Guttur. Three Turkish vessels reported arrived at Kuteef two days ago; uncer
tain if Pasha is on board. Rumours first that Abdullah had escaped from Turkish
camp; second, that notification was issued at Kuteef declaratory of Turks
assuming direct control over W ahabee territory to exclusion of Pysul dynasty;
thud, that Pasha intended proceeding by Canal to Constantinople; all these
rumours require confirmation. Chiefs from Saood have just visited me, protesting
against Turkish invasion from seaward, and requesting replies to Saood’s letters.
Further enquiries confirm belief that messenger killed was from Nassir bin Mo-
barek and related to him. Bahrein Chief most anxious to preserve his neutra
lity.” Telegram ends.

To—Foreign Secretary, Calcutta.
The following telegram from Colonel Pelly, 25th -.—Bahrein, 22nd Novem
ber. Report of escape of Abdullah and his son from Lahsa confirmed, and appears
reliable. Saood is still in Guttur. The brothers are said to be coalescing against
apparent intentions of Turks to supplant their dynasty. Midhut Pasha’s steamer
this morning in sight off Bahrein from Kuteef towards Ojair en route to. Lahsa.
Reported from Kuteef that Turkish Commodore [is ordered to Bahrein in view
to meeting me and other business. Bahrein quiet. Chief plainly anxious to
observe neutrality and be favoured with our advice.
Telegram, No. 2457P., dated 28tb November 1871.

To—Secretary of State, Loudou.
Pelly reports 16th and 25th. Saood after partial success has been
defeated near Lahsa; returned to Guttur where he still is. Escape of Abdullah
and his son from Lahsa confirmed. The brothers said to be coalescing against
TlirTcish designs. Turkish Commodore said to hare been ordered to meet felly
at Bahrein. ° Enquiries confirm Telly’s belief that messenger killed at Bahrein
was from Nassir bin Mobarek. Bahrein Chief anxious for neutrality. Ail
still quiet there.
