In continuation of my letter, dated the 31st ultimo, No. 4127, I have the
honor, by direction of His Excellency the Governor in Council, to forward, for

ing copies of News-reports, received from the Political Resi
dent in the Persian Gulf*' and Political Agent at Muscat. +
NEWS-REPORT.
No. 978-258, dated Bushire, 28th August 1871.
Her Majesty’s Gun-boat Hugh Rose left for a cruize on the 19th instant.
Cholera is said to have carried off many persons since its re-appearance
Bushire.
The poor are still in a miserable condition in the streets of Bushire; about
four or five are said to die every day from starvation.
Some attempts have been made to clear away the accumulation of filth
from the sea-shore. It is reported that cholera prevails in the Oman ports,
especially in Ras-ul-Khyma, where seventy deaths per diem has been the maxi
mum number. Cholera is now on the decrease.
Hajee Ahmed Khan is said to have been re-appointed Governor of Bunder
Abbass for the present year.
The Zil-oos-Sultan, Prince Governor of Ears, reported to have been re-called
to Teheran, the Wullee being now Independent Governor of Ears.

News-report from 20th August to 2nd September 1871.
Since the date of the last Report quiet has prevailed in Oman. An inter
tribal quarrel had arisen amongst the Ghafiree tribes of Dhahireh, which it is
thought may be arranged without fighting. Dates continue to arrive in large
quantities from the interior. Prices are high at present owing to demand for
the American market.
