The date harvest continues to he satisfactory in all parts of Oman.
At the town of Muttrah a species of epidemic fever, apparently similar to
that at Aden and Zanzibar, has been prevalent, hut is now disappearing.

In continuation of the papers forwarded with my letter of the 14th
ultimo, No. 4386, I am directed to enclose, for the information of the Govern
ment of India, copy of a further letter, with accompaniments, from the
Political Eesident in the Persian Gulf, No. 893-232, dated the 14th August
1871, connected with the subject of the recognition of His Highness Syud
Tooiiee as Euler of Muscat.

In continuation of my letter now noted, and previous correspondence con-
„ , _ cerning the affairs of His Highness Svud Toor-
No. 843-214, dated the 3ist of July is . j have now the honor to enclose translated
purport of two letters I have received from His Highness, together with copies
of my replies.
I beg to enclose also a copy of a telegram I addressed you under date the
5th instant on the- subject.
Translated purport of a letter from His Highness Syud Toorkee bin Syud Saeed, Sultan of
Muscat, to Resident, Persian Gulf, dated 7th j^'fgy^ 1 --- 8 , received 4th August 1871.
Thank God, I am very happy. I have not heard from you for a long time.
I have long been expecting replies from you in regard to the Zanzibar
subsidy, and am quite sure you have not forgotten the subject, and certain that
you will oblige me by obtaining the subsidy for me, as through your favour it
was easily acquired by another.
I am now in Liwa engaged in fighting, and have settled affairs here, the
Wullee having been killed and the fort fallen into my hands, the ryots coming
under my rule.
I then proceeded and laid siege to Sohar and made breastworks for artillery.
Inshallah! yolt will soon hear of the capture of Sohar and of my having
brought the people under subjection. On my arriving here the ryots readily
came under subjection. May God help me.
