Yoin Highness mny rest assured that none of your letters or your interests
are neglected hy me. As regards the subsidy, I have not as yet received any
reply from Government, nor have I any instructions on the subject. Major Moss
will inform Your Highness that it is my sincere desire to visit Your Highness at
Muscat so soon as my duties here may permit.
Translated purport of a letter from His Highness Stud Toorkee Pin Syud Saeed, Sultan of
Muscat, to Resident, Persian Gulf, dated 10th Jernadee-ool-Awul 1288 received 4th Aup’list 1871
29th July 1871 x.
I have received much good news and for many days I have been happy at
the intelligence received from India and other people to effect that the British
Government have consented to my being the Buler of Oman and its people.
I pray the British Government may last for ever, and that it may behold
me with the same favour it had for my father.
I should he glad if you communicate this news to me as a fact that I may
be assured and he exalted among the people of Oman and others.

in the Persian Gulf,
To—His Highness Syud Toorkee bin Saeed, Muscat.
I am honored hy the receipt of Your Highness’ letter of 10th Jemadee-ool-
Awul 1288. By the last mail I wrote to Major Boss, giving intimation of
the commands of Government concerning the recognition of Your Highness
as Buler of Mucat. Please God in the meantime all will have gone as Your
Highness’ heart desires.
I trust to visit Muscat immediately the business on the Kuteef Coast
permits.
I hear Your Highness is at Sohar; a meeting between us at that fort
would be very agreeable.

To—Political Secretary, Bombay.
I have letters from Syud Toorkee, informing me he is besieging Sohar
and is sanguine of success. His Highness seems elated at the public rumour
of his recognition, and presses the subsidy question.

His Highness the Sultan returned to Muscat from Birka on the 6th instant.
A collision had occurred between a body of His Highness’ followers and those
of Ibrahim bin Ghes at Hazam; Ibrahim is now at Sohar.
