The letter is informing the Bombay Government that the Resident has made the remonstrance requested in their instructions dated 7 June 1822. It states that in response Ḥusayn ‘Alī Mirzā, Prince at Shiraz, has issued a firmaun [ firman A Persian word meaning a royal order or decree issued by a sovereign, used notably in the Ottoman Empire (sometimes written ‘phirmaund’). ] instructing Rahma bin Jauber [Raḥmah bin Jābir] to cease 'his predatory habit'. It notes that his son will be held as security at Shiraz in order to ensure his compliance.

Further noted in the letter is that instructions have been issued to ports along 'the coast', instructing all boats and vessels to hoist the native colours of Persia.
