Letter regarding trade in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. and Merewether's belief that its growth is still in its infancy and that there will be even larger developments in the coming years; and a report written by Pelly on Oman affairs which it is hoped will enable the Government in Calcutta to decide what approach to take.

The letter also discusses British relations with Persia and the ongoing hopes that the Tehran embassy will be put under the control of the Indian Government.

The letter concludes by reporting that the telegraph to England is working well now they can use both lines in the afternoons; Merewether's lastest visit to Jacobabad; and his thoughts on Colonel Phayre's likely conduct going forward.
