About this record
- Content
Letter regarding the Government (of India) having finally taken a decision on the business with Colonel Robert Phayre, in which the Colonel will be requested to vacate the appointment.
The letter goes on to report on Edward Charles Ross having been ordered to Muscat; Colonel Frederic Goldsmid's arrival in Kurrachee [Karachi], and his failure to settle the boundary dispute owing to difficulties with the Persians meaning the matter will have to be settled in Tehran; and relations between the Turks and the new Ameer [Amir] of the Wahabees [Wahhabi].
The letter goes on to discuss the state of affairs at Bushire, the need for relief for the poor there and the attitude of the Persian Government toward them; as well as cases of smallpox in Kurachee which have originated from Persia, and which have resulted in instructions for all steamers to be inspected.
The letter concludes by reporting on the latest news of the Franco-Prussian war and in particular on the state of Paris and France in general.
