About this record
- Content
Letter regarding the copies of Pelly's proceedings at Bahrein [Bahrain] which he had sent to Merewether; the ongoing difficulties Merewether has had over the preceeding three years with Colonel Robert Phayre including how they have led to the most recent rebellion in Khelat [Kelat] which have finally led to both his and Captain Robert Sandeman's removal which Merewether hopes will enable him to attempt to resolve the matter.
The letter goes on to discuss Pelly's route to Simlah [Simla] via Bombay and inviting him to return via Sind; Ibrahim Khan's intentions towards Chabar [Chāhabār] including Persian reactions to them and Charles Alison's likely involvement in it; and Merewether's desire to talk with Pelly and his hopes that there will be enough time in Kurrachee [Karachi] to do so before Pelly has to depart for Bombay.
